Networking Upstart Bebo Integrates iTunes Downloads

Social networking upstart Bebo is now integrating iTunes Store downloads into its artist profile pages, according to deal terms revealed Tuesday. The partnership will allow fans to purchase songs directly from their favorite bands, as long as corresponding tracks exist on the iTunes Store. The deal, first discussed by the Financial Times, will initially be limited to core Bebo footprints in the UK and Ireland.

That audience is roughly 8.8 million, according to the report, a substantial subset of the larger Bebo population of 33 million. Bebo houses approximately 500,000 artist pages, and appeals heavily to the 16-to-24 demographic. The deal is largely viewed as an experimental step for Apple, and potentially part of a broader stab into social networking environments. More details on the deal are expected to surface this week.
